Bamboo After The Rain
2016
A closer look at the work
Green bamboo stems fill the image in dense layers. One pale pinkish stem right of centre departs from the prevailing colour. Dark nodes set short horizontal marks against long verticals. Many finer lines remain between nearby stems, creating depth through increasing density rather than an open path.
The eye seeks order among similar forms. The pale stem offers an anchor without becoming the sole subject. Neighbours vary in thickness, inclination and surface light. Small differences keep repetition open. Attention becomes a process of comparison: prolonged looking reveals individual relationships of spacing, overlap and direction within apparently uniform green.
