Bamboo in the Rain 2, Japan
2016
A closer look at the work
Several thick green bamboo stems stand immediately before the camera. Glossy surfaces and pale nodes remain clear; numerous stems behind soften into narrow light streaks. A finely textured green ground zone lies below. A few nearby bodies provide the view into a denser environment.
Sharpness distributes attention. Foreground stems can be followed as individual surfaces, distance remains a rhythm rather than identifiable plants. Proximity becomes a matter of available detail. The forest is not experienced equally at every depth but through a limited selection. Smooth stems seem almost tangible without closing the openness behind them.
