Water
Beach Walk 2
2011
A closer look at the work
A pale curve of stony beach projects into the water. Coloured objects and small human figures are distributed along the shore, with low buildings beneath a broad blue sky. The narrow panorama holds these details beside one another instead of isolating a single subject. On the right, the water becomes a larger, largely uninterrupted colour field.
The view joins a place of movement to a kind of stillness. Many small occupations make up a coastal scene without becoming one event. Its lateral reach asks the eye to wander, following the shore, discovering intervals and returning to coloured points. Leisure becomes visible as an arrangement of proximity, separation and collectively occupied ground.
