Urban · Visions of Time
Berliner dom 5, Deutschland
2011
A closer look at the work
A broad night panorama opens from Berlin Cathedral. Large stone figures stand close to the camera on the right; roofs and illuminated streets lie far below on the left. Blue and green light spreads across architecture and sky. A diagonal beam connects the lower city to the open space above.
The sculptures make the elevated viewpoint physically tangible. They belong to a building yet also face the viewer, with the city appearing small beyond. The panorama joins proximity to a long lateral outlook. During the Festival of Lights named in the work text, existing surfaces receive a temporary colour order without losing their differences in age and scale.
