Berliner Dom VI
2011
A closer look at the work
A greenish dome stands close, topped by a small golden sphere. An illuminated city spreads behind it beneath intense blue sky. Dark roofs lead towards the rounded structure. The dome's clear ribs hold the nearby form together while distant streets and houses become bright bands.
The elevated view changes our relationship to the building. A roof usually seen from afar becomes an immediate counterpart; the city recedes. Curvature gathers the gaze while light lines repeatedly draw it outward. Concentrated form and extensive surroundings create a tension between proximity and overview, neither of which can receive equal attention at once.
