Berliner Dom VII
2011
A closer look at the work
Dark roof edges frame a broad night city. Wide fans of light emerge from a bright point below, crossing an open square and fading among buildings. Part of a dome remains on the left. Nearby architecture looks heavy and shadowed; light seems immaterial while clearly dividing space.
From an elevated edge, the eye is led downwards. Beams make distance almost measurable without fixed walls. Yet nearby roofs conceal parts of the city, recalling the restricted viewpoint. Overview is not a disembodied external gaze but a view between obstacles. Fleeting light establishes a temporary centre within a dispersed environment.
