Urban · Visions of Time
Brandenburg Gate, Deutschland
2020
A closer look at the work
A round pool surrounded by dense planting occupies the foreground. The illuminated Brandenburg Gate stands beyond between quieter facades. Water reflects parts of the architecture and sky. A low viewpoint gives the nearby pool considerable weight.
The landmark is approached through planting, water and reflection rather than a direct view alone. Its surroundings mediate recognition. Presence depends not only on a building's outline but also on the surfaces through which it is seen.
