Daibutsu right hand, Japan
2016
A closer look at the work
An arm enters from the left and ends in a raised hand. Curved fingers create a small opening against blue sky. Heavy folds mark the sleeve while the palm appears smoother. A narrow bright edge below separates the dark sculpture from its background.
Daibutsu Right Hand gives one gesture an expansive setting. The arm directs attention outwards while the fingers’ curve returns it to a small contained movement. Extension meets concentration. The photograph offers close inspection of a shaped action whose meaning does not follow from material proximity alone and need not be fixed prematurely.
