Harlekine im wind 2, Deutschland

Artwork text and archival details
Adapted from the artist’s archive.
Trees on the Baltic cliffs between Bad Doberan and Warnemünde lean into the salt-laden air. Their irregular forms suggest dancing figures, the harlequins of the title. Oaks, ash trees and beeches share an exposed terrain in which persistence takes on an unexpectedly light, almost playful appearance.
The eroding cliff makes change visible, while the sea’s repeated movements merge into a softer surface through time. Branches, shore and water hold different rhythms within one image. The photograph reflects on endurance without stillness: how can something remain recognisable while continually responding to the forces around it?
