Reflections of India
Kushum sarovar, Indien

Artwork and cultural context
Water as an architectural mirror
A narrow walkway in the foreground leads into the panorama of Kusum Sarovar. Water and buildings form a calm horizontal arrangement, while reflection extends the architecture downwards. The walkway’s central perspective introduces a directed movement into depth.
The site near Govardhan combines a water tank with commemorative architecture. Its sandstone monuments honour Suraj Mal and his two wives. The photograph can therefore be read as landscape, architectural view and an image of a place of historical remembrance.
