Water
MT. Fuji At Night 2
2016
A closer look at the work
A pale summit rises above a dark, extended shore. Calm blue water lies before it, a similarly coloured sky and low cloud band behind. Small lights line the landscape's foot. The broad panorama gives the central rise ample lateral space, allowing height to emerge from a nearly horizontal arrangement.
Sparse lights introduce human scale without commanding the larger form. The bright summit stays distinct while lower slopes merge into darkness. Visibility is graduated: distance appears where a difference in light remains. The calm sequence lets the eye move between water, shore and peak, experiencing distance as successive steps of perception.
