Mt. fuji at night, Japan
2016
A closer look at the work
A snowy mountain rises as a pale, roughly triangular form above dark slopes. Broad blue water lies before it, and a narrow cloud band crosses below its summit. Small shore lights form a fine boundary between water and land.
A strong centre meets expansive surrounding fields. The summit attracts attention, but sky and water establish its scale. The image studies distance by presenting a recognisable mountain through several nearly empty zones rather than isolating its outline.
