Reflections of India
Ocean rock in kerala, Indien
A closer look at the work
A fractured rocky projection extends from the right into turquoise water. Pale edges divide darker stone into numerous small planes. Palm fronds overlap the view at the right, marking a nearby viewpoint. Darker and lighter water surrounds the rock while the upper area remains almost empty.
Ocean Rock in Kerala connects a sharply bounded mass to an open graduated field. Slanting fronds direct attention towards stone whose edges point in several directions. Sea creates distance between these forms. Landscape becomes an interplay of surfaces: leaf, rock and water each establish a different order of line, light and visible movement.
