A closer look at the work
A narrow dark horizon separates two nearly equal fields. Muted grey lies above cool blue-green. Only slight variations in brightness animate the water; distinct waves, boats and coastal features are absent. This Baltic view reduces spatial clues to a minimum.
That restraint makes the boundary between sea and sky effective. The line is little more than a tonal change yet is sufficient to suggest distance. The image can be seen both as landscape and as a relationship between surfaces. Each small gradation changes the sense of depth, requiring closer attention to the few features that remain visible.
