A closer look at the work
An extremely narrow vertical frame shows portions of a human body against black. Green, red, violet and blue rectangles divide the figure into zones of different brightness. Curves of hip and legs remain recognisable but are cut by straight colour boundaries. Large dark areas conceal continuity, making individual parts more prominent.
Paula VIII places bodily continuity beside planar division. Looking reconstructs a coherent figure from coloured fragments. Curved surfaces alter the geometry, while the body becomes the support for an abstract pattern. The work examines how bodily representation can emerge between depiction, concealment and an autonomous pictorial surface.
