Reflections of India
Pilgrim on Purple Dust 14, Indien
2014
A closer look at the work
A bearded man in a patterned turban carries a large elongated drum, with a framed image against his chest. People in pale and colourful fabric gather around him. Raised hands stand out against pink ground in the elevated view.
The drum makes a possible musical setting visible without reproducing sound. Its circular end gives volume to the grouping of hands and folds. Objects and gestures suggest shared activity, while what could be heard remains an association prompted by the instrument.
