Reflections of India
Pilgrim on Purple Dust 5, Indien
2014
A closer look at the work
A nearly all-white figure moves over pale pink ground. Headcloth and loose fabric form one bright body articulated by small shadows. The head inclines slightly and arms remain close. A long diagonal dark line gives direction behind.
The small tonal difference between figure and ground requires careful looking. Folds, feet and shadow gradually distinguish the body. Visibility emerges through gradation rather than strong contrast, as one step briefly changes the otherwise quiet surface.
