Reflections of India
Pilgrim on Purple Dust 9, Indien
2014
A closer look at the work
A strongly patterned red garment stands out above a man in light brown clothes whose head turns slightly aside. Other legs and fabric edges remain at the frame boundaries. Pink ground connects the figures, with small dark shadows beneath.
Overlap replaces separate portraiture. Each person belongs to a situation continuing before and behind them. Pattern briefly arrests attention while steps carry it onward, revealing a gathering as successive temporary groupings rather than one uniform mass.
