Reflections of India
Pilgrims at govardhan 4, Indien
2014
A closer look at the work
A man in pale clothing walks leftwards before dark foliage. A loose wrap draws several vertical lines across his body, and a head covering frames his profile. Bare feet meet the warmly illuminated ground at different phases. More space remains behind him than ahead, clarifying his direction.
The pale fabrics reveal folds and overlaps, while the surroundings disclose only scattered leaves. The body is neither detached from the place nor concealed within it. The picture concentrates the pilgrim journey into a physical action: weight shifts, one foot supports, and the other moves forward. This visible sequence cannot establish the person’s determination or faith.
