A closer look at the work
A single woman walks in profile through the illuminated area. Her red skirt widens towards a green hem; above it are a muted top and a bright red headscarf. One foot rises behind the other. Her backward arm and moving fabric edges lend quiet animation to the upright figure.
Dark space surrounds the body. This isolation makes small differences between stable and moving forms legible: a steady torso, a stepping foot, cloth projecting sideways. Neither a visible group nor an identifiable destination explains the person. Attention therefore rests on the physical presence of a journey whose religious context is named by the title while its individual meaning remains open.
