Rickshaw in Vrindavana

Artwork and cultural context

A vehicle in an almost empty image

The rickshaw appears as a delicate structure in pale mist. Wheels, rods and canopy become lines as the surrounding space almost disappears. The photograph approaches an outdoor still life, making an everyday vehicle newly perceptible through reduced visibility.

Vrindavan is both a pilgrimage town and an inhabited place of movement. Instead of a temple view, this work shows a means of transport. It adds the material conditions of travelling to the series’ religious settings.
