Authentic Nature
Salon - old hotel, Spanien
2009
A closer look at the work
A damaged yellow wall surrounds a red door and large window openings. Trees and a rocky mountain appear through the frames. Missing plaster, exposed edges and empty floor show traces of use and deterioration. Wire mesh adds another layer between nearby interior and landscape.
Salon – Old Hotel makes a former gathering space tangible through its boundaries. Furnishings are gone, yet architecture still organises an outlook. Looking moves outside but repeatedly meets damaged surfaces. The past appears as material change rather than a reconstructed scene. The building retains its ability to frame even when its former use is no longer visibly fulfilled.
