Reflections of India
Shopping Street, Indien
2011
A closer look at the work
A brightly lit street runs straight between low roofs. Violet, grey and muted brown buildings flank it beneath a dark sky. From above, the road becomes a luminous cut through solid blocks.
The eye follows a clear direction but cannot distinguish all activity below. Brightness indicates use while also obscuring detail. The title names a shopping street; the photograph translates its connecting function into a line around which the surrounding city is organised.
