Authentic Nature
Slope point 1, Neuseeland
2006
A closer look at the work
Several pale trunks lean above grassy ground. Exposed branches form an extensive framework, while dark crowns sweep almost continuously to the right. Warm light catches smooth wood and long grasses. Blue sky separates the fine outer twigs.
At Slope Point, movement is distributed throughout the group. Many differently bent lines produce a shared direction rather than one isolated gesture. The forms are individual yet connected. Looking can follow trunks from ground into dark foliage, tracing how landscape makes forces apparent through shape even when the wind itself remains invisible. Repetition gives the group rhythm without turning its varied bodies into identical signs.
