Romance of Elements
Softice on fire, Litauen
2006
A closer look at the work
Dark angular structures rise in oblique directions against pale streaked sky. Their articulated surfaces remain partly obscure. A small sequence of golden loops passes through a lower opening. Fine light appears nearly immaterial beside the massive height.
Two movements confront one another: upward force fixed in angles and a rounded fleeting course below. Monumental forms determine scale, but light redirects attention into a narrow interval. Without assigning the structure a historical meaning, the view shows how a small temporal appearance can interrupt and rearticulate a large spatial order.
