Stoneman 2, Island
2014
A closer look at the work
An irregular stone stack rises above broad rocks. Its sides project and recede in steps towards a narrow top. Bright water and a dark land strip lie behind, under heavy clouds with pale edges. Nearby stone remains rough and articulated.
A low viewpoint gives monumentality without establishing actual size. Individual pieces make balance a relation of visible weights. Stones retain contours unlike cloud forms, yet offset edges resist complete closure. A constructed-looking focus emerges within breadth while the conditions of its cohesion remain exposed.
