Water
Tokyo Skyline
2016
A closer look at the work
A long skyline rests above nearly mirror-smooth water. One slender tower rises on the left. Warm grey sky colours the water, which repeats buildings as a darker inversion. A narrow shoreline binds the horizontal arrangement.
Reflection does more than duplicate detail. It gathers the city into a continuous distant form. Buildings above remain possible places; below they become visibility without inhabitable space. Shared contours conceal this fundamental difference. The calm composition makes the exchange between material city and optical counterpart available without a single event dominating it.
