The Infrared Journey — Somewhere in Between
The Symbol and the Queue
A closer look at the work
The Eiffel Tower occupies the centre, but the waiting people determine the foreground. Red jackets and trousers connect individual bodies into an irregular line. A long building leads into depth on the left, while pink foliage bounds the space on the right. Turquoise sky opens a large empty area above the crowded lower half.
The visible landmark and the temporary experience of waiting demand different kinds of attention. The tower offers an instantly recognisable point of orientation; the people remain distinct in their postures. The photograph connects a monumental idea of the city with an everyday experience of its visitors. Access becomes a shared process composed of many individual, staggered steps.
