A closer look at the work
A wooden jetty extends from the lower left into Lake Zug. Its upright posts give rhythm to the open water, with dark reflections extending them downwards. Rust-coloured leaves hang from both upper corners. Small boats and a low ridge lie in the distance beneath a pale-blue, clouded sky.
The jetty makes the relationship between viewer and landscape concrete. It offers an imaginable route into the photograph but ends well before the distant shore. The open view is experienced from a constructed threshold. Planks and posts introduce a human order into the fine movement of the water. This limited area of walkable space makes the lake’s expanse more apparent.
