The Infrared Journey

A closer look at the work
A dense wall of coral-coloured leaves presses into the image from the left; water and sky open in turquoise on the right. Between them, jetties, a small building and the pale slopes across the lake recede in successive layers. Perspective follows the shoreline into the distance, yet the reflection brings the colour of the vegetation back towards us. Its dark, shifting edges allow land and water to interlock without entirely dissolving their boundary.
The eye moves between individual leaves and the barely distinguishable vegetation on the mountains. This progression makes distance perceptible as a loss of detail. The unfamiliar colour also draws foreground and background together: both belong to the same altered field of perception. The jetties give the shore a human rhythm, but remain slender interruptions within an expansive landscape. The tension between these scales produces a stillness through which the eye can continue to wander.
