The Infrared Journey
The Lonely Caravan
2023
Artwork text and archival details
Adapted from the artist’s archive.
A solitary caravan stands in the open landscape of Sylt. Its aluminium surface reflects the unfamiliar colours of the infrared photograph, bringing a modest human shelter into relation with the wind-shaped surroundings. The caravan suggests both withdrawal and possibility: a place apart from the pace of everyday life, where attention can turn inward.
The artist’s archive describes this retreat as a place of creative work, where simple pipes become sculptures. The photograph gives that idea a visual form. Its heightened colours lend an otherworldly quality to an unassuming structure and raise a question about sufficiency: how much do we need in order to make room for thought?
