Water
Flying stone, Frankreich
2008
A closer look at the work
A long flat stone rests diagonally on a much smaller support. A dark gap beneath its left half seems to separate the upper mass from the ground. Further rocks and low greenery surround the formation. Pale clouded sky clearly separates its edges and emphasises the unusual balance.
Flying Stone derives apparent lightness from a difference in scale. The upper block suggests weight, yet its small point of contact makes gravity more conspicuous. The photograph holds this contradiction together. The stone does not fly; arrangement changes the perception of weight, turning a fixed formation into an open question of balance.
