A closer look at the work
A straight horizon divides pale sky from turquoise water. No shore, boat or figure interrupts the two expanses. Fine waves and changing brightness remain visible below, becoming more compressed towards the distance. The relatively even sky provides a still counterpart to the water.
Reduction gives small changes greater weight. The sea appears both as depth and coloured surface. Rather than offering a single focal point, the photograph presents differences within apparent uniformity. How much movement can be seen in an image made almost entirely of colour and a boundary?
