X-ray 2, Japan
2016
A closer look at the work
A raised hand stands out among overlapping blue and orange body forms. Darker silhouettes occupy the left, while a warm figure crosses a pale field on the right. Horizontal edges run through the centre, remaining visible within people. Bodies seem partly to admit rather than completely block their surroundings.
In X-ray 2, gesture matters more than definite identification. The hand provides a brief anchor within the changing arrangement. Looking distinguishes lines that might belong to bodies, reflections or space behind them. This uncertainty makes public proximity tangible: being near does not mean knowing fully, and appearing together does not simply erase individual boundaries.
