Pigment and Water – NFT photographs by André Wagner between colour, water and resolution

Pigment and Water

The 81 individual images were taken from the roof of the Baladev Daujin Temple in India during the Holi Festival. The same clip from the same bird's eye view with 81 different settings of the variables aperture, filter, ISO and exposure time creates a work of art that appears almost painted.

Blurring details of an entirety define the character of this fascinating series. Photography, viewed from a distance, is reminiscent of abstract painting, such as that found in Gerhard Richter. The women who playfully beat their men with T-shirts, the color pigments and the splashed water are symbols of the peace-creating meaning of the Holi Festival, which overcomes social barriers, and the ecstasy of the moment.

In the work, they leave a shadowy veil for eternity. On closer inspection, each individual image becomes a fascinating image of a moment, a wonderful play of human sensations. The believers in the images are always in motion, but as individuals, they almost fade into the background. The individual scenes become blurred in the play of time, and so people are ultimately instrumentalized into brushstroke variables.
